Well, Well, Well, A Scientist Begets An Artist

"Well, well, well.  A scientist begets an artist!"

Rod Malay, a cousin of Sir Isaac Newton... DNA fact

He is an inventor... interesting products... a two seater pedal vehicle for intercity transportation, to cut down on fuel consumption, 1979.

He is an architect... conceives interesting hand-made environmentally friendly habitats. Check out the "Nile House", Gottington and Charles Streets, Halifax, affectionately called "The Boob House". Rod designed and built it. The terrace glass ceiling art piece, titled: Absolutely But Not Absolute, he created with Agne, Lithuania artist. He also builds homes out of straw bales to save the forests.

He is a visual artist ... paints socially activist pictures, various styles, abstract, realistic, contemporary... he mixes the old masters, as Glenn Gould did with Mozart music to create new music, new narratives. He painted Dali/Hume"Persistent Memory with Sir Isaac Newton", his famous apple, melting in his hand, like those dripping clocks;images He  painted Da Vinci/Pierre's "Mona Lisa with Diana and Callisto" (Greek/Roman mythology) ; He mixed Van Gogh's "Starry Night with Da Vinci Salvator Mundi"... He is working on "Freud with Picasso's Frau mit Tumburin", an intriguing psychology event. Well, he actually calls his paintings "events", re Rosenberg, "what was to go on the canvas was not a picture but an event". Basically, he writes stories with images.

The Artist 1980

He is a sculptor works in metal, fiberglass, paper mache, clay, wood, plaster of paris... created multiple sculptures: Woman Thinker, Sad Man and others..

He is an installation artist... constructed a 45' military tank installation, walk through sculpture, loaded with fiberglass and paper mache figures (Canada Council gave him a grant, called him the "Master of paper mache".  The tank was bolted to the 45 foot trailer hooked to his old 18 wheel freightliner and drove it across Canada, decrying the death of society, 1987, called it, No Further Comment, was a national media hit, generated 30,000 spectators, free visits.

He is a costume designer...  outfitted  the Shangri-la Cowboy concept,  full regalia, guns, spears  and all ... like a Don Quixote, rented a horse and trotted around the city streets pointing out to people the importance of accepting human diversity and tolerance in our differences. The Mayor greeted him and receive one of his sand-dollars of peace. ...

Oh, there is much much more...  much more...!!!
There is his name: Rod Malay, Mallay, O'Mally, Mailley, O'Malley, Mailey, Maley, Mealey.  The surname Maley first found in Ireland from ancient times... his DNA in Westport with his woman name sake...  Grace O'Malley  lord of Ó Máille dynasty, well-known figure 16th-century Irish history, actual name, Gráinne Ní Mháille, feared no man, was dangerously adept with sword in one hand and pistol in the other at the prow of her ship, of which she had many. Survived well into her 70's, died comfortably in her castle, her dogs by her side, was much admired by the English Queen, Elizabeth 1st
Rod (Ruairí Ó Máille) has sculpted in clay, Gráinne in modernity, to be a 10 foot bronze statue, bolted to granite rocks on Nova Scotia shore... standing symbolically, unconquerable against the ferocity of the North Atlantic Ocean, declaring Rod's deep respect for women, the inspiration with many of his art events.

Ruairí Ó Máille, a published author, a guitar musician, song writer, poet, social art activist, an actor. Sentient psychology, which is neither a "primitive and simple form of cognitive psychology" nor "unconscious" Freudianism, guides his creative force daily, frequently, without concoction. Concepts, fully configured, appear in his mind, as if instructions from another source, not the supernatural fantasy of patriarcal rituals, but to an event in the moment, that triggers an ancient memory, another event, in the 37 trillion cellular structure of the body, millenia ago, even back to the first cell.

Ruairí is a visionary, producing a new art series of events, titled: The Ant Race 1021, addressing the Catastrophic Denial of Reality, leading the global human society to the precipice of extinction. Is there a way back...the scientists say "there is". Ruairi is not  sure humanity can put on the brakes.
His work is ever current and applicable to past and present societal global events

There is much more about to show, to tell, as well in his blog: www.shakethedevilofftour.blogspot.com

He is a graduate of NSCAD and wants a  Gallery exhibition , could bring thousands of visitors, even surpassing the numbers at his Army Tank, 30,000.

What do you think... like it or not? As I see it, my art fits well within galleries  Vision and Mission. At 77 yrs, I have crossed many borders, Actually, had a show at AGNS, 1980 with my silk screen series, followed by a tour of NS, set up by the Gallery, which also purchased one of my prints.

Sincerely

Rod  Ruairí
