From That To This

I was glad to get out of the BOG and the cold snow. My psyche was prepared to move from the shit house to the "sun and the fun"!

From that:

To this:

To T-shirts and sandals to Brazilian music. Did you ever hear Brazilian country and western? It is distinctive, with a few integrated, recognizable twangy chords.

and to a pretty lady...

a Channel 7 news celebrity... her first break in public notoriety, her first step upon the stage, her "American Dream". She is loaded with toxic social biases, with opinions on everything from vinegar in wines to "liar lawyers", politicians and world affairs. She loves animals more than humans and she gave up eating lobsters when she saw them being submersed in a pot of boiling water... that made her cry... for them. She is a celebrity at heart, loves the camera focusing on her, never late for an appointment, is never caught off guard, with a verbal retort that can melt your heart or destroy your ego in an instant (depending on the attitude of the giver, whether that be the President of the USA or the Queen of England). She would never be "caught some place with the wrong purse".

She says my art is "bullshit"! She has no trouble expressing herself. For this, I find her one of the most refreshing people I know. She can give it and she can take and... will give it back, faster and quicker than lightening. You will love her or hate her but, you will never forget her!

She is a natural fashionista... born and bred on a rich European cultural, behind the "Iron Curtain" She clawed and screamed and excavated her way out to America and is now a USA citizen and is reconstructing her ideology on the illusive "American Dream".
That is an interview you want to hear at which point you will fall off your chair in pains of laughter. She is spontaneously creative in this way. You'll never guess what will come out of her mouth next... it is certainly not rhetorical garbage, as factually right or wrong as it might be.

So, I am happily here in South Florida to share some ideas (on art, writings, videos, films) for her on her way to the limelight . We have a decade and half of history, she and I, from Russian through Canada to America… a story to tell... from hell to hell!
As well I am here to open some venues for my own “Bullshit” art. Along with, of course, to get out of the bullshit winter in the Bog. Of course, also… to write that song on that Flapper, Nellie, for our spring ceremony/celebration at her dark terrestrial home in Connecticut. I did visit her on my way down… it was refreshing to embrace her again, as well as with some inviting cousin family along the way.

Let’s see where this all goes.

That Lady... With More Typicality

Well, I am on the road again, sitting just south of Boston, at a MacDonald's travel plaza. Ya gotta hand it to MacDonalds, offering free WiFi, with no obligation to buy anything and no hassle sitting here for hours.  As I check my email, I see that Lady is back again with her instructional responses to my commentary. However, she does illicit more rhetoric from me. It seems this is my only available form of reply.. damn it. Is that because this is the only understandable form of communication. It wastes so much time. It is my fault. I enable it of myself and others. I cannot get by the walls of typicality and redundancy, without being rude...? But, I find language so, so tedious, so uninspiring. The art of language is hard to find. Though definitely existent, it is under duress, as in all aspects of modern life, in architecture, song and dance, politics, thought, action, raison d'etre

I watch that poor girl, here at this MacDonald's, go around that plaza floor about every 10 minutes washing those same tables and sweeping those same floor spots, where no one sat or walked... so the boss can see she is busy. I guess I have been here too long... time to move on. So, "with no further ado, here is" that Lady. And I will go on to visit Grandma Nellie.

Lady

…to be honest, I'm still not sure what you were trying to say in that post.

You have to assume the reader hasn't been following your thoughts prior to your writing it. I understand what you were saying about Rex and the CBC. I agree. After that you lost me.

All writing leaves an impression. Be clear what you wish to impress upon people with your words.

Facebook is not a good venue for anything longer than a cryptic sentence.

Hope this helps.

Rod

Yes, so true. That is either the fault of the writer or the reader. That I have not yet figured out. My expectations are not high of the reader given the centuries of entrenched, cleverly devised mind control mechanisms... for example, Christianity, generically speaking. Now, that is one brilliantly successful advertising campaign... not yet successfully modeled upon by modern myth makers... with millions of book sales and trinket icons trashing up earth space.

I have no expectations or disappointments with Facebook. It is what it is... a profoundly vacuous social media outlet, that is obviously an important instrument of star narcissistic connectedness, However, occasionally an important event emerges, of some social significance.

Since you have not included the email to which you refer, I am a bit limited as to a full response, without assumptions. However, my objective in all writing and art is to achieve a profound level of ambiguity... far from the death throws of rhetorical reaction... the ambiguity that leaves the observer in that tantalizing state of wonderment. That is a high ideal but, not outside the realm of the possible, as there are numerous successful achievements in this regard. Leonardo De Vinci imagined humans could fly. Today, we are not only flying around in jet planes but we have just landed a space probe on a comet, 300 million miles away from earth. That boggles the imagination. Mozart has written music that is as powerful today as when he wrote it and it still inspires new/creative music, as in our own great Glen Gould, even from elements that Mozart himself did not see in his own creations. I am listening to Kurt Vonnegut and understand little of his brilliant gibberish yet, he inspires me.

I think the language of words should not intend to instruct but, to inspire. I find reading often results in phrases or words, that rise out of intellectual context for me but, not to what the writer may have intended. Those phrases or words take me into a whole new realm of thinking and I may never get back to that book or paper. It has served a purpose for me, has triggered a new thought that connects me to the genetic library of human evolution. From the emergence of that first cell of life, in that cesspool of toxic chemicals, 3.5 billion years ago, our cells have stored billion and billions of genetic memories, which continue to influence human behaviour to this day. I am trying to tap into that but, not by conscious dismissal, rather by investigating states of emotion or those disconnected feelings that appear in my mind or body without explanation or understanding. We all experience them but, let them pass or employ a psychologist to provide us with an answer (most often his or her faulty assumption, at best).

My new work of art, A SAD MAN, appeared to me in this way, I believe, from that genetic library. And it is connected to instinctive evolution, with new element/ideas attaching themselves by the hour, to the original idea. What is the SAD MAN. He is a man evolving or digressing from social predator to eunuch. In physical reality : A SAD MAN will be a life size sculpture of a man, loaded with subtle, ambiguous, literal and nuanced visual elements, that may declare the state of the modern male psychic. Let’s see where this will go on the Miami art scene.

Collective Global Castration

Collective Global Castration ... this is what is on my mind but, do not know yet where this will lead for me. I am profoundly leery of looking at a woman these days, or even of admiring her dress and certainly hesitate to make a comment. I am working on a new art piece on this subject.... will try to produce it after tomorrow, as I am on the road down to Miami. May connect with the Miami art scene first and produce it for a collective show there. Anyway it is on the way.

I will discuss it with Nellie, when I visit her in Connecticut.

Invective, ranting prose

This blog is a follow-up from my Facebook blog yesterday: THE RATS OF CYBER STREET.

I received another letter from a lady, who gave her feedback and her interpretation of the feedback of other ladies on my commentary: WHEN THE RATS JUMP SHIP. I love her reply and as it is my nature, I will reply to each of her points, which I am now in the process of doing.

Lady wrote:

I've re-read your post about Rex Murphy/Jian Ghomeshi. It still hits like an angry rant. Perhaps that is your intention. What I believe has drawn the ire of some of your women facebook friends is

a) lambasting Rex for his opinion against Jian G. (Didn't hear/read Rex so I am assuming) which seems to position you in support of Jian G.

Rod writes

"...seems to position you in support of Jian G..." "seems" is not evidential in my commentary, is an assumption without fact. There is nothing I wrote that supports abusers. I neither support nor endorse Jian in my words. Assumptions are relied upon in the contrived ideology of the social construct manufacturers (probably addressed in Manufacturing Consent...Noam Chomsky).

Lady

b) then follows an intimate description of rough consensual sex you experienced and the notion that slapping dogs induces excitement because they will keep coming back

Rod

There is a lot of ambiguity in this statement. What is she saying here? Does slapping dogs asses induce excitement...? I do not know but, I do know the dogs keep coming back for more... why? I had done the slapping and there is a noticeable euphoric-like look in the way the dogs hold their heads coupled with that action of disappointment in their physical expression when I stop slapping... a turning back their heads, looking at me with sad-like eyes. Dogs totally dominate me... that is why I cannot own them... I am sure I would turn them into obese sexual perverts. Well, that is getting a little off the subject. The question I have is this: Is slapping a human animal ass similarly as effective a slapping a dog's ass. It is a known fact, from the DND/Human Genome project, that we humans are as short as one gene away from being a chicken or ape... or, a dog. And it is also known that male and female humans have the same sexual drive (David Suzuki, Nature of things)

Lady

c) your call to followers of the ART to step up in support of....Jian? Rough Sex?

Rod?

Again, assumptions. But,  I did not say that "rough sex" is abusive sex. And let me say again... I was brought to this delightful ART by the lady. She was my mentor... a passionate, inspiring lady, about whom I wrote a song. I loved how her yellow jeans  embraced her bottom and how they enhanced her Mediterranean olive skin.

Lady

In my view, the story of Jian Ghomeshi is not about rough consensual sex, but about the alleged physical assault as 3 women have laid legal charges. Joining the two subjects infers you are in support of his taste for rough sex. Many now see this as his excuse for violent behaviour.

Rod

Without making contrived assumptions... on some of which you might be right. And I cannot control your factualist assumptions that I am "in support of his taste for rough sex". It seems you have concluded that my idea of "rough sex" is synonymous  with how you see Jian's rough sex or rather how the media has interpreted his rough sex... abusive assault, as reported by the ladies. However, my text does not support your assumption about me. There is no evidence in my text that does this.

Lady

The view of women here is heavily skewed in favour of stopping assaults against women. We've known men that are violent....many of us have been assaulted or suffered with a friend who has. It's a delicate line to walk, as a man, when you discuss this subject.

Rod

Men have to go there, a "delicate line" or not... in their own defense and in support of women. This is exactly the line I walk in all of my artistic endeavours. It was and remains a patriarchal, bloody society. I ask you, women, to hear what I am saying. I am fighting for your cause and my own liberty, from the social constructs that oppress you. Let us all understand also about the instinctual forces that drive us. Sometime, they are not pretty. But, we need to collectively raise the human society to high grounds. We still have, obviously, have a ways to go.

Lady

No matter how deplorable the behaviour of CBC, if he is guilty, he should face the full penalty the law allows. Until then he is innocent.

Rod

The fact is, he has already been convicted, in the court of public opinion.

Lady

Perhaps one needed to see the Rex piece to fully get what you were saying, but I would expect few have.

My personal choice is to recognize, albeit with distaste, the media frenzy, the growing number of complainants etc., and try to understand the true root of the problem in our societal structure that leads to these issues being dealt with in this way. Finding solutions is more important to me than the shock value of a rant.

I've come to the conclusion that government, politicians, media, business.....(everyone therefore) LIES!! We live in a society with an extreme focus on self-interest at all costs, at all levels. It is what has made us so sick.

Rod

Ditto... dear lady

Lady

I have much to say on this subject, but truly I prefer to be encouraged by the positive steps taking place to create a kinder world.
.
Rod

I sincerely appreciate this lady's commentary, as it addresses some of my most passionate social concerns, in particular... the metaphoric/social constructs embedded in language that are used by the forces of dis-harmony, to trigger instantaneous destructive action in society.

Rod Malay: She adds: Words are important and I have no fear of them. Thoughts create words, and words create actions. In this sense, I believe words are powerful and should be respected. I reread my last email. I don't think it fully captures what I would say to the facebook universe on this subject, but I get the sense you are trying to create a dialogue of sorts or reaction from friends? Maybe you could explain that to me.

I would like to understand more of why you choose an invective, ranting style of prose to get your point across. That interests me.

Rod Malay: One must denounce insidious, rhetorical commentary and I have been known to rant. But must one relegate ranting to the side line of thoughtful debate. Even gossip has its social benefits, mentally, psychologically, and even spiritually, to use a lazy, thoughtless, over used language metaphor.

Rod Malay: And one more explanation to this lovely lady... I do not "choose an invective, ranting style of prose" as I understand that to be a contrived (dishonest) controlling action. Truly, I work hard at speaking from innocent impulse... without pre-meditation. It is not easy for me, as I feel largely controlled by contrived social metaphors. So I employ pre-emptive impulse in my writing and art with the belief that I will eventually destroy the deeply embedded religious, state, corporate constructs that determine my behaviour.

I have installed this painting in a past blog but, feel it is even more useful in this blog:

EJOP stands for: European Journal Of Psychology. I have done a series of paintings on magazine cover themes to explore the iconic power of commercial logos. My paining art, in fact, all of my art is not intended a wall decorations, rather I do it and use it as departure points on  the discussion of social structures. The image here is taken from a "selfie". The door, with moon and stars, is taken from my Jasper Bog World Bank outhouse. Humour is always in my art... but, that humour is loaded with social context. The moon and the star... a shit house door is loaded... check it out on the internet.

The Rats of Cyber Street

The Rats of Cyber Street

Let me explain the following Facebook exchange for those who do not live in Canada. A little over a week ago one of Canada's most famous radio host celebrities, Jian Ghomeshi, was swiftly fired from his job because of allegations of sexual violence against some women. This has now become a wide spread departure point for social media debate on the matter of violence against women in general.. This is good. But, I see a shit load of "knee jerk" reactions in the media. So, I had my say...

When The Rats Jump Ship

Rex Murphy… another CBC wreck, another CBC rat swimming ashore from the Ghomeshi ship with enough hypocrisy to sink the ship. I listened to Rat Rex last night with disgust as he fed, like the other CBC parasites, on the carcass of Jian… insidious commentary.

You rats all raised him up on his great stead, fashioning him and then hung onto his celebrity coat tails for your vicarious glory…. Self aggrandizement… with your dicks on fire!

Take a look into your rear view mirrors … see the ugly, moralizing, cowardly face looking back at you. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. You get no respect from me. I am not sucked into your ingenuous, ranting, rhetorical hypocrisy .

Grow up, get real…!!!

I once had a relationship with a woman who “took the proverbial bull by the horn”. We had rough sex, while I stripped her forcefully and we made love, and we made love!. It was exciting… for both of us. We did it again and again. She initiated it and taught me the ART of it. There were no victims.

Did you ever slap a dog on the ass… it will stand there, no matter how hard you slap and it will come back for more. The sting of the slap on the bare ass is sexually exciting… it is art, artful foreplay. And it is not sadomasochism, not perversion, not a sickness. There is something primal in that action. And I do not apologize for it.

And where are you, you practitioners of the ART, as Ghomeshi goes down in the “Ring of Fire” Speak up! Speak out against the rats.

Cathy Jones..guess you missed the part where he sucker punched women who had just walked in the door, its the law that smacking someone or punching them in the head cannot be consensual , by the way- and these women had no interest in getting smacked in the head . it wasn't a smack on the ass or even a worked up sex play rape scene, not a fun exchange, or even consensual rough sex- roddy- Jian G was violent to many women and a creep.hes pretty fucked up. you can kill people by smothering choking and slamming them in the head. just saying.

Rod Malay: Well...Anastasia and Cathy... you missed the point of my comment. Read it again and see if you can conclude that I agree with anyone who hits a woman. I did not use the words "art and assault" in the same breath, nor the word "assault" at all and certainly not as an inextricable partnership. However, if you should read Jean Genet... you might find an interesting psychological point of view on the relationship between victim and the murderer. That is if you can lay aside, for the moment, the frightening social forces that control thinking. And I did not say that Ghomeshi was not a violent man. Think about what you are writing and what you listen to and interpret from the propaganda machine. And contemplate the metaphoric rhetoric, that is loaded with social control... the rhetoric that is so entrenched in our psyche that it can trigger wars in an instance and guilt without conviction.

Carol Sinclair: Two minute attention spans.

Gale Brown: We live in a society that vilifies the accused in public, and then our legal system allows vilification of the victims of date assault in the courtroom. No wonder why only 1-2% of date assault is reported. The CBC's excessive coverage of this 'story' is self-serving, but is encouraged by a public that gobbles it up. The real burden remains with us to change a system that results in 98-99% of date assault to be unreported.

Rod Malay: And that "burden" is profoundly rich with social constructs and well worth investigation.

Rod Malay: Well... I just received a call from a dear (near lost friend) with a great concern about my "anger", as expressed in my commentary, "When the Rats Jump Ship". I was actually quite surprised... never thought of it as "anger". In thinking about her caring observation, I am wondering if this is another of the powerful messages deeply embedded in the propaganda of social constructs.... a fear of words perhaps... a fear of boldness. Actually, I thought I was being poetically humorous. I actually enjoy playing with words. I come from a simple culture, where my mother used simple, rhetorical colloquialisms to express herself. Let me tell you this story about her. Long ago in the Corn Flake boxes there were little gifts, to provide incentives to buy. One of their campaigns was inserting large plates, Melmac dinner plates... "Unbreakable" was their slogan. My mother was challenged... "I can break those goddamn things" and took them out doors and smashed them, with all her might, against the bedrock. Three times she tried, with more frustration and embarrassment in each throw. She had to give up... couldn't break them.

Creating a "celebrity" out of my Russian/Georgian friend... well actually, helping her (with her English) on her mission to get her health and beauty care license. But, she really does have a showbiz talent... the "American Dream" really could be hers for the taking.

On the way south, I will of course be visiting my dear Grandma Nellie, along with many wonderful cousins on route. But, the sun may be a bit cold, as the meteorologists are predicting freezing "arctic" weather next week... as far down as North Florida. It may be slow going...
